Slow Down Tummy Syrup {Natural Diarrhea Support}

Nausea, diarrhea, the worst! Being a mama with kiddos who go to school and are always exposed to this stuff means I’m ready for anything. Legit, as I type right now I have this syrup in my freezer. Ready to thaw and use!

I do recommend making a batch of this and separating it using ice cube trays or plastic bags, so you don’t have to thaw the whole syrup when you need it. I do this with my elderberry syrup as well! Most of us don’t have diarrhea all the time (which if you do, give me a call because that’s not normal!), so this form of storage is highly recommended!

Below is the recipe, so you can skip this part if needed, but I wanted to dive into some research for my nerds like myself who want proof in the pudding this works!

  • Blackberry root holds phytochemicals of tannins and flavonoids, which naturally hold an anti-diarrhea property. It’s an astringent herb (because of the tannins), which means it stops tissues from releases certain properties like blood, stool, etc. It tightens things up, mama!
  • Elderberry is great for being an anti-viral + antimicrobial and boosting your immune system to fight off bugs. It’s known for it’s help with the flu, but it’s my go-to when my immune system needs a little extra support.
  • Raspberry leaf is the same as blackberry root, in the sense of being high in tannins and an astringent herb to reduce diarrhea.
  • Marshmallow root is my JAM for anything GI. I love this herb so much because it has mucilage properties, which reduce the inflammation and irritation in the GI. I also love it for increasing our sIgA, which is our immune system in our gut.
  • Ginger is naturally known for its GI benefits. It’s anti-inflammatory and eases nausea and GI discomfort. It’s also been studied to fight against E. Coli, which can be a reason for diarrhea to begin with!
